But it seemed like once she arrived in Esperanza Beach, time froze for like 100 pages. I was proud of her for knowing what she wanted and finding the determination to get it in spite of the odds stacked against her. When I started reading this book, I was reasonably entertained by Emery and her strong will. And the ending was an absolute pile of trash, but more on that later. Why, on god’s green earth, does nobody in Esperanza Beach question a teenager who is evidently an unaccompanied minor running around a town on her whims and not attending school? What kind of father who raises his child alone and pays for her care suddenly goes mad scientist and doesn’t care about his daughter’s wellbeing? I just didn’t buy all of that. She would have been better suited to a different story entirely. What a great message for any young girls reading this book. She believes in herself, despite what others tell her. Resolution: A ridiculous and colossal waste of a plot. I wasn’t terribly fond of anyone.Īccuracy of Publisher’s Synopsis: I suppose there’s nothing glaringly inaccurate, but they do omit some of the most central ideas of the plot. Secondary Characters: They take a while to warm up to.
